Productivity in the Workplace

Do you feel like your work days never end? Are you struggling to be productive in your work space? If this seems to be a problem for you, your work productivity is in serious need of a reboot!

If you’re working standard hours, you probably aren’t as efficient at all hours of the day. There are times where you struggle, and times when you’re most productive. Everyone goes through these productivity ups and downs during the workday, but most people still power through to finish their work regardless of how long it takes. With minimal productivity, it can lead to overtime hours and even weekend work.

It’s import to find your productivity peaks and valleys, and pay closer attention to your daily habits as well as your energy and focus levels. According to Business News Daily, Nicole Fallon states, “”Being more productive starts with planning out your workday.””  For example, you’ll likely know whether you’re an early bird or a night owl based on when you’re feeling most alert and attentive. Next, just determine what it is that holds you back from being productive.

Here are several suggestions from U.S. News to observe in your day and make it more productive:

  • Take breaks
    • It’s tempting to sit at your desk all day and power through, or try to finish your work all in one setting, but the truth is your mind needs breaks. Be sure to schedule at least two 10 minute breaks during the day where you can get up and go for a walk, or sit on a bench outside in the sunshine.
  • Prioritize
    • Once you get to work, and once during the middle of the day, be sure to work on a list of priorities. This will ensure you stay on task and can quickly move to your next task without much thought.
  • Start your day earlier
    • If you can, get to work a little earlier in order to get settled while others aren’t around to distract you. This will help ensure you have some time to make lists, get set up for your day, and have uninterrupted time.
  • Don’t multitask
    • Just complete the task at hand and move on, that way everything is done with full attention and not half-attention.
  • Snack Right
    • Make sure to pack healthy snacks that are high in fiber and protein — this helps ensure you stay full longer, preventing your stomach from becoming a growling distraction!

Hey you??yes, YOU! Just in case you need a pick me up —

  • It’s OK to ask for help.
  • It’s OK to start again.
  • It’s OK to say no.
  • It’s OK to reset.
  • It’s OK to let go.
  • It’s OK to not be OK.

Happy Monday, TMS Solutions!
