What is a coil? Is there a right place?
Mike P. (Cherry Creek) -An electromagnet coil like those used in TMS machines is made of wire generally shaped in a coil. The majority of TMS machines have two coils that make a figure-eight configuration.
An electric current is passed through the wire of the coil to generate a magnetic field, or conversely an “”external time varying magnetic field”” which is the magnetic pulse we use.
The area of the brain treated is about the size of a silver dollar; the magnetic pulse is not like a laser pointer — but rather has some spread — so between the spread of the magnetic field and the size of the treatment area there is a larger relative area that can be treated.
